MR TRUMAN ON GERMANY
“ CHANCE TO TAKE UP • NEGOTIATIONS ”
(Rec. 7 p.m.) WASHINGTON. May 5. President Truman told a press conference to-day that there would be no need for a meeting of the British and French Prime Ministers (Mr Attlee and Dr. Queuille). Mr Stalin, and himself, if the Foreign Ministers’ Council reached an agreement on Germany at its meeting in Paris. Mr Truman said he was happy there now was a chance to take up negotiations where they had been left off 10 months ago. when Russia imposed the full blockade of Berlin.
Mr Truman refused to comment on p reported statement by the United States Military Governor in Germany (General Lucius Clay) that, pending an agreement with Russia, the lifting of the Berlin blockade would only be temporary.
