OLD GIRLS’ ANNUAL BALL The annual ball, arranged by the Rangi-ruru Old Girls’ Association and held *ast evening in the Wentworth. was a brilliant gathering, with at the same time a friendly, happy atmosphere as of a big family party It was a red-letter night in the lives oi 23 former pupils of Rangi-ruru who made their debut at the ball and were presented by the president of the association (Mrs Walter Thacker> ti Miss Ethel Gibson, whose mother founded the school and who. herselt, retired from the principalship three year ago. Miss Gibson wore a frock of black satin and lace with large ciamente motif on the bodice, and she and the present principal of the school (Miss R. Mason), whose frock was of wine-coloured moire taffeta, wore sprays of carnations presented by the ball committee. Mrs Thacker wore a froc v of Imperial blue taffeta with pipings of silver tissue and a spray of dark red carnations on her shoulder.
The picturesque presentation ceremony, directed by Miss E. Cornyns Thomas, was carried out with commendable dispatch. The debutantes, headed by the triplets. Misses Jun* 3 . Jocelyn and Helen Bonifant. dressed alike, all carried posies of white and gold flowers, the gifts of the Old Girls’ Association. After being received by Miss Gibson, who showed great pleasure at meeting her former pupils, the debutantes and their partners took part in a special dance and were warmly applauded by the other guests. Some of the girls who were presented were the daughters of old girls of the school, and many of them had been guests of honour at dinner parties that preceded the ball. Specially invited guests were the Rev. James. Baird and Mrs Bairn, Archdeacon C. L. Mountfort and Mrs Mountfort, Miss R. Mason, Miss Lowe, Misses E. and W. Gibson, Miss E Cornyns Thomas, Miss.l. Warner. Miss G. Gray, Mr W. Goss (representative of the Board of Governors) and Mis Goss. Mr M. E.‘Lyons (representative of the Board of Governors) and Mis Lyons, the Rev. D. F. MacKenzie and Mrs MacKenzie. and representativefrom si*: kindred associations—St. Andrew’s College, Christ’s College. St. Margaret’s College, Girls’ High School. Te Wai Pounamu College, and Cathedra’ Grammar School. The very efficient members of the organising committee were Mrs Waiter Thacker (president), Mrs M. £. Lyon:. Miss Eetty Webb, and Mrs W. J anks (vice-presidents), ‘Miss M. Waller. Mrs A. Blunden. Mrs N. R. Belcher. Mrs J. R. Dawson. Mrs McRae Peacock. Mrs D. E. Dalzell, Mrs C. Hart, Miss Pam Cuddon, Miss Natalie Lough, and Miss Fay Matson, with Mary Stevenson as honorary secretary and treasurer.
The debutantes were Misses Yvette Waller, Barbara Moloney, Barbara Cuddcjn, Margaret McLaughlin. Isabel Wright. Janice Moore, Marie Wornall, Rosemary Bacon. Joan Rennie, Gillian Materin, Virginia Ensor, Barbara Beadel. Adrienne Smith, Pauline Exton, Janice Middleton, June. Jocelyn, and Helen Bonifant. Patty Williams. Winsome Parrs. Cynthia Morse. Nan Charters, and Alison Macpherson.
