AUSTRALIAN FARM PRODUCTION
The total value of Australian rural production in 1948-49 was likely to exceed £ A 600.000.000 for the second successive yean the Minister for Commerce and Agriculture, the Hon R. T. Pollard, said in Canberra recently. He added that although the huge rise in gross value since the war was partly because of price increases, the volume of production of most rural products was above average pre-war level. Of this amount, the pastoral industries will produce an estimated £260,900,000, agricultural industries £225,400,000, and dairying and allied industries £116,300,000. This total is about the same as that for 1947-48, but compares with a total of £370,200,000 for 194 G-47, and £211,000,000 as the average for the five years ended 1938-39. !
