Bakers from England
After an advertisement in an English trade journal calling for bakers to come to New Zealand, a total of 864 replies had been received, said the secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Bakers and Pastrycooks in Auckland recently. Unfortunately the baking trade did not enjoy a high priority in the Government immigration policy and difficulty had been experienced in getting any of the applicants to New Zealand. Also, many of them had been married, which meant that prosoective employers had been faced with the difficulty of finding accommodation.
