0 MAN SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT (New Zealand Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 6. “I regard sly grog shops and illicit spirit distilling as gross evils There is no room for them in the community. The health of the public must be protected.” said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day, when he sentenced Herbert Ivers. aged 41, of Freeman's Bay, to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. Ivers had pleaded guilty to two charges of having in his possession apparatus for distilling and' being found on premises with four and a half gallons of spirit on which no duty had been paid. A customs ofticer told the Court that the percentage of spirit was as high as 41 per cent, over proof and the lowest 100.8.
