SENTENCED TO DEATH
SON OF SUEZ CANAL BUILDER ASSISTANCE TO GERMANS DURING WAR (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) PARIS. May 5. Paul de Lesseps, a son of Ferdinand Marie de Lesseps. the builder of the Suez Canal, was condemned to death in absentia by the Paris Court of Justice to-day. De Lesseps was found guilty of having given the Germans during the occupation of France a report describing his version of how military, sea. and air operations could be carried out effectively against the canal. In addition to the death penalty de Lesseps was sentenced to national degradation and confiscation of all his property. He is believed to be in Spain.
