BRITISH IRON AND STEEL BILL

PROBABLE ATTITUDE OF LORDS (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, May 4. "Considerable* interest is attached to the attitude of the Opposition in the House of Lords when the Iron and Steel Bill comes up for its second reading later this month,” says the “Financial Times.” “Until recently it was generally assumed that the bill would be rejected on its second reading. This course is now generally expected to be avoided by the Conservative peers on the grounds that it would be bad tactics and bad strategy. It is felt that the House of Lords should not resist the passage of the bill on its second reading, but should seek extensive amendment of the bill in the committee stages.”
