BUS SERVICE TO INVERCARGILL
Authority’s Decision CHRISTCHURCH APPLICANT SUCCESSFUL Permission has been granted by the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr C. L. Bishor) to Mr V. L. Neate, of Christchurch, to operate a continuous bus passenger service between Christchurch and Invercargill. The authority issued his decision yesterday. Applications were heard at a sitting of the authority in Christchurch last month, and were opposed by the Railways Department. Other applicants were Midland Motorways Services, Ltd.,’of Christchur.ch; Luxury Landlines (G. N. Prisk), Ltd., of Wellington; and Hanning Brothers, of Invercargill. Mr Neate said yesterday that it was hoped to begin the service within four months. A nine-ton Diesel land cruiser would be used on the 11-hour service. Every effort would be made to ensure comfort for the passengers. The chassis of the bus is already in Christchurch. The body will be built in Christchurch and will incorporate the latest style of seating, all the seats being between the wheels. Bassinets will be supplied for babies. Morning and afternoon tea will be served on the bus. and a stop will be made at Palmerston for a hot meal. Drivers and hostesses will be changed at this stop. It is hoped that a second bus will be in operation two months after the service begins. The chassis for this bus is awaiting shipment from Bri tain.
