THIEVES ACTIVE DURING WEEK-END
QUANTITY OF CIGARETTES STOLEN Thieves were active in Christchurch during the Easter holidays. The greatest loss suffered was that by the firm of St. George Atkinson and Co.. Ltd., merchants and manufacturers’ agents, 148 Lichfield street, some thousands of cigarettes and several pounds of tobacco being stolen. The thieves were particular enough to take good brands. The works of J. Mercer and Sons in Moorhouse avdnue were broken into and a sum of money was stolen. A motor-car, stolen from the garage of Mrs A. Thompson, at 123 Merivale lane, was later found abandoned in Manchester street, St. Albans. A model speed boat was stolen from a garage on the property of Mr I. K. Buchanan, at 97 Fendalton road.
