EXPULSION OF MR A. G. WILLIAMS
BRANCH DECISION EFFECTIVI The expulsion by the Opawa branch of the Labour Party of Mr A. G. Wil* liams is effective, the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee having approved of the action of the branch, after the branch had confirmed the expulsion. Mr Williams yesterday declined to comment cm the final decision. Ha had written to the Opawa branch that in reoorts the branch delegates to tha L. had already reported that tha decision to expel him had been confirmed, and therefore it was preposterous that he should appear before the branch. He informed the branch that any action members proposed to take against him made no material difference to him. . A motion for expulsion of a prominent member of the Christchurch Central branch was recently withdrawn. The motion, of which a comparatively new member gave notice* was lodged after a stormy meeting ox the branch at which a member, who had held office and had been defeated m an election, refused to accept the rulings of the chairman (Mr W. Hickey). r TiTp proar dev eloped at the meeting. When the motion for expulsion of the alleged offender was moved. Mrs R. M. Macfarlane moved that it should be considered at a special meeting of the branch. The motion Was witharawn without being fully discussed at the special meeting.
