GOOD THREE-YEAR-OLD

TROTTING

JOSEDALE AUDUBON Driven by S. G. Leggett, who races him m partnership with Mr I. G. Watkins, the three-year-old colt Josedale Audubon created a good impression when he beat a field of older horses in the Westland Handicap, the main event on the programme for the Greymouth-Westland Trotting Club’s meeting on Monday. Great Wonder was the smartest to begin in the Westland Handicap, but he soon surrendered the lead to Josedale Audubon. Wee Logan raced up to Josedale Audubon at the end of three furlongs, but he could not pass him. Once into the straight for the sprint home, Josedale Audubon stayed on well to wjn from Kimono Girl, which finished fast. Then came Glengarry, Ipso Facto, Great Wonder, and Glamis Castle. Great Wonder appeared to be the unlucky runner. He was securely pocketed in the straight, and finished full of running. Later in the afternoon he led all the way to win the Au Revoir Handicap from Glengarry. The second favourite, Glamis Castle, appeared to be stepping tenderly in her preliminary. The winner of three races earlier in the season, Josedale Audubon is by the American-bred Josedale Dictator from Allie Audubon, both of which were successful at the trotting gait. Bred at Methven by A. J. Wilson, Allie Audubon is by the imported Maxegin from Nellie Audubon, by Great Audubon from Penelope, by Rothschild from Georgina, by Lincoln Yet. Jottings

If he had been able to get clear in the straight, Merrymaker might have troubled Star Rosa and Perpetua in the New Zealand Pacing Stakes on the second . day of the/Easter meeting at Addington. Now at the top of his form. Merrymaker may win the St. Clair Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday. After several breaks in the first two furlongs, Finale settled down to trot solidly, and he outclassed the field over the concluding stages of the second division of the Rimu Handicap at Greymouth on Monday. Trained at Templeton by C. R. Berkett, Finale is a five-year-old gelding by Bill B. from Coralline, by Nelson Derby from a Bonny Chief mare, which was out of Franesca, by Franz from the Vancleve mare, Phoebe. In Form

Belshazzar indicated that he is approaching the form that enabled him to win four races in his first six starts for the season when he finished third, close up to Desworthy and Morning Wings, in the Spreydon Handicap at Addington last week. On the strength of that form, Belshazzar should carry solid support in .the Victory Handicap at Forbury Park this

Racing at Nelson Jack Peterson may leave the maiden classes with a win in the Wakefield Trot Handicap at the Nelson Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday. Jack Peterson, which is trained at Addington by F. G. Holmes for Mr C. L. Rhodes, is a three-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from Ivy Peterson, the dam of winners in Lord Peterson, Sir Peterson, and Admiral Peterson. Consistent

The consistent Wrackdale brought his record to a win and eight minor placings in his 16 starts for the season when, after taking the lead with three furlongs to go, he carried on to win the Autumn Handicap at the Greymouth meeting on Monday.

Esperanto set the pace in the early stages from Wrackdale, Dominion Jack, and Phoebe’s Pride. Esperanto weakened with six furlongs to go. where Lady Ellen took the lead with Wrackdale, June Grattan, and Mystery Maid following. Wrackdale was always master of the situation after he took the lead, and he was not troubled to win from Sir Gary, which finished second to Real Brigade in a division of the Richmond Handicap earlier in the day. Wrackdale, which is trained by T. Thompson for Mrs R. Pankhurst, is a five-year-old gelding by Josedale Dictator from Colleen Wrack, which took a record of 2min 48 l-ssec at the pacing gait. The dam of a winner in Ben Adam, Colleen Wrack is by Wrack from Erin’s Isle, by Lord Chancellor from a Prince Imperial mare.

May Win at Forbury Park Blue Mist’s splendid record of three wins and four minor placings in her nine starts this season attracts attention to her prospects in the Beach Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday. One of E. Todd’s team at Wyndham, Elue Mist is a four-year-old mare by Dillon Hall from Bell Drusus, by Drusus from a Bellman mare, which was out of a Berlin Abdallah mare. Third Win

General Manager gained his third win for the season when he beat Air Mail by two lengths in the Waimate Plains Handicap, the main event at the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting on Monday. A four-year-old horse, General Manager, which is trained at Cambridge by G. T. Mitchell for Mr G. Egan, is by Gaillard from Mazda, which is by Nelson Bingen from a Coolgardie mare. Likely Favourite

Conceit, which has gained three wins and three minor placings in his 10 starts for the season for Messrs H. and C. Stafford, will probably be sent out one oi the favourites for the Bayfield Handicap in which he is, nicely placed on the 24 yards mark at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting next Saturday.

Indigo’s Prospects Indigo, the runner-up to Attack in the Dunedin Cup Handicap, and to Lady Averil in 'the Metropolitan Handicap a; the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting in January, may race well from the 24 yards mark in the Ritchie Memorial Handicap, the main event on the programme for the same club’s meeting this week. Good Dividend

Sand Wrack, the runner-up to Finale in the second division of the Rimu Handicap, returned her supporters a win dividend approaching double figures when she won the Otira Handicap later in the afternoon at the Greymouth-Westland Trotting Club’s meeting on Monday. Sand Wrack, which led nearly all the way, trotted solidly under pressure in the straight to win by half a length from Jubiliant. Dalcassian, which broke badly when he challenged Sand Wrack at the top of the straight, finished third. One of D. Teahen’s team at Pleasant Point, Delcassian, which showed some ability when he was doing his best work, is a four-year-old gelding by Desmond’s Pride from Mersa Matruh, the dam of Mamanuas, Carissima. and Conceit. Mersa Matruh, which was bred at Alexandra by Mr E. F. Saunders, is by Nelson Bingen from Lady Elwood, by El Carbine from Clarewood, by Wildwood from Lady Clare, the winner of the 1911 New Zealand Trotting Cup.
