POPPY DAY

GOOD RESULTS IN COUNTRY

All preparations for Poppy Day on Friday have been completed by the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association. though more collectors are still needed. Employees of the association work right through the year making poppies, and about half New Zealand is supplied from Christchurch, the production figure being about 340,000 a year. Nearly all the other poppies needed are made in Auckland.

The poppy-makers have now finished working on poppies for this year, and are preparing special Mp-eaths of poppies. Many of the sub-:branches of the association have already sold all their poppies, and one. Ellesmere, has reach-' ed a record of £149. The other country districts, most of which arranged for the sale of poppies to coincide with the ewe fairs held in their centres, have all collected amounts well up to those obtained in previous years.
