STABILISATION OF WAGES

AWARD RATES WANTED IN ALL TRADES

MASTER BUTCHERS’ REQUEST

(New Zealand Press Association.) NAPIER, April 1. The sta jilisation of wages at award rates m all trades is to be sought by the New Zealand Master Butchers’ Federation.

At the annual conference in Napier, a remit to this effect was adopted the proposer, Mr W. S. Hughes (Canterbury) contending that the traders throughout the country had to “auction” among themselves for staff, the highest bidder being successful. Stabilisation was not being observed with the result that the trade was experiencing extreme difficulty in securing staff, said Mr A. J. McCready (South Auckland).

The immigration of skilled butchers to New Zealand was supported by the conference and representations are to be made to the Government to sponsor the scheme.
