N.Z. CRICKETERS IN ENGLAND

8.8. C. COVERAGE OF TOUR (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, March 30. The British Broadcasting Corporation is planning to report the tour of the New Zealand cricket team as fully as the Australians’ visit last year. Ball-by-ball commentaries of all four test matches will be broadcast by a special transmission on short wavelengths. The commentaries will be relayed by the British Far Eastern Broadcasting Service at Singapore, for rebroadcasting in New Zealand. There will also be running commentaries on seven other matches: the opening match against Yorkshire and those against the M.C.C., Glamorgan (two matches), Surrey, Lancashire, and Middlesex. The other county matches will be described after the close of play each day, and a few hours later there will be an eye-witness account. Mr Arthur Gilligan, a former captain of England, will give previews from the test match grounds. Commentators following the tour will include Mr Roger Blunt, of the 1927 and 1931 New Zealand teams, and Messrs Rex Alston and John Arlott, of the BBC. Although its plans have not been competed, the 8.8. C. intends to broadcast a 15-minutcs’ commentary on each All Black-Springbok test match in South Africa. Each commentary will be broadcast in the Pacific Service the day after the game.
