WAR PENSIONS

R.S.A. URGES INCREASE The Returned Services’ Association agreed that whr pensions should be increased, and some strong remits on the subject would be going to the Government from the next annual conference of the association, Mr H. E. Batchelor, the president, told the annual meeting of the Christchurch association last evening. “There is no question that £5 5s a week is not fit reward for a man who has gh’en his health for his country,” Mr Batchelor said. “A war pensioner is not allowed to earn anything else, but would it not be better if those men were allowed to work? For they can work very occasionally. We can do with all the extra production we can get, but are refusing these men a chance to produce something and to earn a little extra.”
