PRODUCTION OF LINSEED OIL
INCREASE MAKES FOR BUYERS’ MARKET
The long-standing sellers’ market in linseed is coming to an end after last year’s increased production of linseed oil, a London market report says. World production of linseed oil last year rose by 160,000 short tons to 1,252,000 tons. Average prewar output was 1,160,000 tons. The whole aspect of world vegetable seed and oil markets has undergone the most drastic change of th« post-war period, the report adds. Proof that the buyer has at last regained the upper hand is said to lie in: (1) the lifting of Indian export duties last month. (2) Modification of export controls in the U.S A. (3) Canadian withdrawal of export and import controls. The buyers’ supremacy is expected to assist a modification of Argentine’s seed and oil export policy. - World exports of linseed oil this year are forecast at 350,000 tons, compared with 250,000 tons in 1948.
