CASHMERE ROAD
Sir,—Would the powers that be state why we have such a nightmare of a road as Cashmere road. Some time back, a considerable part of it was widened. A bottleneck, and a dangerous. rotten bridge remain. Why is this road not tar-sealed? Why leave coarse, blue metal, now a mass of weeds? Other roads in this district, which carry less traffic, have been tar-sealed. If the authorities have no sympathy with the ordinary road-user, they might have a little for the children who are compelled to use it all the year in all weathers. For years, I have used this road through compulsion. Ir. that time I have never known this road to be settled. It is graded to-day and after a week-end the shingle is on the move into the fence line again, to be graded out again.—Yours, etc., ANTI SHINGLE. March 24, 1949. [The chairman of the Halswell County Council (Mr E. Paterson), to whom this letter was referred, had no comment to make.]
