TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

KRAKATOA IMPRESSES

Krakatoa, Royal Castle, Sure Lad, Joselito, and Fair Isle, which are all engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes, the feature event at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, all attracted, attention when they worked at Addington yesterday morning. The track was slow after rain on Sunday, and all work was done well out from the rails. .P£* ven by D Teahen, who trains him at Pleasant Point, Krakatoa created a good impression by the manner in which he trotted when working over a mile and a half in 3min 53sec, the last four furlongs in Imin 14sec. A place-getter in the Domett Handicap at the Cheviot Trotting Club’s meeting on March i 9, Krakatoa is by a winner in Desmond’s Pride from Random, which left Stray Shot to the same sire. By Maxegin. Random is out of Enigma, by Nelson Bingen from the Advocate mare Guess. Krakatoa has obviously done a lot of work and he will probably be sent out favourite for the Trotting Stakes. Royal Castle, a half-brother by Desmond’s Pride to a winner in Darkie Grattan, is a bold trotter. He should eventually develop into a winner for Mrs M. J. Becker.

Sure Lad, which will race in the interests of his breeder, A. F. C. Rushton, who trains him at Addington, gave a solid performance when he was paced over a mile and a half by Bonny Brogue in 3min 45 l-ssec, the last four furlongs taking lmin 13sec. A sturdily-built youngster. Sure Lad is by Quite Sure from a winner at the trotting gait in Ohinemutu, which left winners in Lady Scott, Bonny Scott, and Bonny Brogue to U. Scott. Joselito and Fair Isle were let off with easy work, covering the last half mile of their trial in lmin 16sec.

Joselito, which is trained at Charteris Bay by J. Anderson, is a neat filly by Josedale Dictator from a winner in Sister Mary. Fair Isle, which is trained at Addington by V. Alborn for Mr E. J. August, is a well-grown filly by Light Brigade from a successful pacer in Betty Wrack, which is the dam of winners in Jill, Super Globe, Fillmore, and Fortuna. Looked Well

Baby Grand and Grattan Drive, which both looked well, covered two miles in 4min 43 3-ssec, the last half mile in lmin ssec. Two fine pacers when at their best, they should both do well at the Easter meeting at Addington. Paddy Potts was given strong work over two miles by D. A. Morland.

Gantree, a winner at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting, shaded Dundee Sandy and Duncraig at the end of a mile and a quarter in 2min 50 3-ssec., the last four furlongs in lmin ssec. A big son of Lucky Jack and Alice de Oro, Gantree should race well from the 12 yards mark in the Preliminary Handicap at Addington on Saturday.

Driven by F. Holmes, who trains him at Upper Riccarton. Direct Heir covered the last half mile of his mile and a quarter trial in lmin 6 2-ssec.

Remlap and Starshell worked over a mile and a half in 3min 35sec, the last half mile in lmin 8 2-ssec. A winner at the trials at Addington last week, Remlap may win a race for Mr J. Palmer at the Easter meeting. Trotted Solidly Harmonist gave a solid display of trotting when setting the pace for Pocket Edition, Victory Globe, and Ben Ledi over two miles in 4min 54 2-ssec, the last half mile in lmin 8 4-ssec.

Golden Amazon and Jack Peterson were let off with a mile and a quarter in 3min. On looks, Golden Amazon should soon win a race.

Mountain Hall and Dillondale sprinted the last four furlongs of their trial in lmin 6 l-ssec. Mine Host, which is trained at Cambridge by G. T. Mitchell, w’orked attractively, covering the last four furlongs of his trial in lmin lOsec. Jackie Guy, Red Ace, and Trustee finished together at the end of two miles in 4min 52 l-ssec. the last half mile in lmin 8 3-ssec.

Pirouette, which is engaged in the Autumn Stakes at Addington on Saturday, covered the last half mile of her trial in lmin 6sec. Th'e winner of three races this season. Pirouette must be conceded a chance from the 24 yards mark. A Dillon Hall Filly The two-year-old Dillon Hall filly, Lindy Lou, paced smoothly when working over a mile with Golden Game in 2min 25 4-5 sec. the last half-mile in lmin Bsec. A likely type, Lindy Lou should do well under V. Alborn’s guidance. Wee Alec, which appears to be improving under J. Purdon's care, covered four furlongs in lmin 12sec. Driven by Percy Chew Lee, Chinese Gold covered the last half mile of her trial in lmin 13sec.

Acclamation, which is nicely placed in th’e Stewards’ Handicap at Addington, on Saturday, set the pace when working with Great Belwin, Dan Martin, and Indian Song. Acclamation covered the last mile of her trial in 2min 22sec, the last halfmile in lmin 7 3-ssec.

Systematic and Jimmy Dillon, which were not timed, both worked nicely for G. S. Smith.

Glamis Castle was too good for Kenyon at the end of a mile and a quarter in 2min 54sec, the last half-mile in lmin ssec.

An Attractive Youngster Miss J. Cuff was a visitor from Hinds with a team including Limelight, Veracity, My Ideal, a sirf -year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Regina Logan, and a two-year-old filly by Quite Sure from Native Tree.

A smooth-actioned youngster, the Quite Sure filly delighted track-watchers when she gave a stylish exhibition of trotting, covering the last half mile of her trial when racing in the middle of the track in lmin 13 3-ssec. One of the most promising two-year-old trotters seen out for some time, the filly is a sister to a winner at the trotting gait in Rakautika. “I was offered £lOOO for her, but she is not for sale,” said Miss Cuff, who added that she keeps all the fillies bred at “Quite Sure Lodge.” Veracity, a brother to the Quite Sure filly, and My Ideal, a sister to a smart trotter in Believe Me, showed a lot of ability when they worked. Limelight, which lost her chance when she struck trouble in the Timaru Nursery Stakes at Washdyke on March 12, was always going easily when she covered a mile and a quarter in 3min Isec, the last half mile in lmin 9 3-ssec. A neatly-made Icevus filly. Limelight is out of Sure Bonnie, which l left Ever Bright to Brilliant Globe. By Quite Sure, Sure Bonnie is out of Bonnie Barbara, by Jack Potts from Barbara Worth, by Rey de Oro from Logan Chimes, by Logan Pointer. Accidents have prevented the Quite Sure—Regina Logan gelding from racing. A sensible type, he is related to winners in Regina Derby, Pola Negri, Southern Smjle, Voloma, Southern Chief, Southland, and Walter Moore. Jottings The Addington trainer, H. Greenhorn, is represented at the Cambridge Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday by Elmdale, which lost form after gaining two wins and a second in his first three starts for the season. Dragoman, which has a win and nine minor placings to his credit this season, may add to his record in the Express Handicap at the Easter meeting at Addington on Saturday. Sandy’s Epic showed that he is returning to his best form by gaining two seconds at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting. One of S. R. E. Townley’s team

at Tinwald, Sandy’s Epic may soon win a race for Mr T. Cox. Erndale, which won at Oamaru last week, is by Sandydale from Dulux, which left a winner in Palette to Josedale Grattan. ,
