CARPENTERS’ DISPUTE

UNION ADHERING TO DEMANDS "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. March 29. A meeting of the Auckland branch of the Carpenters’ Union at Carlaw Park to-day carried the following resolution:— “That this mass meeting of carpenters and joiners reaffirms the decision of the last mass meeting in its determination not to return to work until the just demands of the union are met. In view of the employers lifting the lock-out we are prepared to man, through the union, all jobs and factories where the employers are prepared to concede not less than the original demands. “We condemn the partisan action in deregistering our section of the union, but this will not distract us from the fight for our just rights and higher living standards. “We place, on record our appreciation of the splendid moral and financial support which has been, and is being, given to us by the workers of New Zealand.” Moderate elements in the carpentry trade will apply immediately for the registration of a new union of carpenters, joiners, and joiners’ machinists in the Auckland district. This action, which follows the deregistration of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Carpenters’ Union on Friday, was approved by a majority of about 250 to 4 at a meeting this morning. The meeting appointed an interim executive of 11, with Mr R. J. Peter as chairman and Mr C. T. Hill as' secretary.
