CANTERBURY MUSEUM PRAISED
< DR. MURPHY’S THANKS FOR ASSISTANCE “Your museum, which for a long time was known as the best in the Southern Hemisphere, is a little musty now, but it is growing out of its ice age very rapidly,” said Dr. R. Cushman Murphy, chairman of the department of birds at the American Museum of Natural History. New York, to the Christchurch Businessmens Club yesterday. “With a live beard oj trustees and under an able and brilliant young director, the Canterbury Museum has an opportunity of becomins a very great institution.” Dr. Murphy, after expressing his thanks to the museum authorities for the assistance they had given him during his studies in New Zealand, asked for support for the museum by the general public.
