STOCK SALE

(P.A.) , INVERCARGILL. March 1. The market showed an easing tendency for most classes of stock at the Lorneville sale to-day. Fat cattle were in over-supply and there was a lack of competition from country butchers. Two-thirds of the entry of fat sheep comprised wethers, Including some lines of extra good quality. Prices for wethers depreciated as much as Is 6d a head compared with last week's values. Quotations were:—prime heavy wethers 47s to 50s, good, quality two-tooths 51s to 545, medium 46s to 495. light 41s to 43s 6d, maiden ewes to 37s 6d, good quality butchers’ ewes to 325, medium and freezing weights 25s 6d to 27s 9d, lighter sorts 22s to 235. Several lines of good heavy-weight bullocks were included in the full yarding of fat cattle. For some classes the prices dropped as much as £1 10s a head. Prime heavy bullocks realised from £22 to £24 10s, prime £lB to £2l, medium £l5 to £.17 10s. lighter quality down to £l3 10s, prime quality heifers to £lB 10s, medium £l5 10s to £l7, lighter sorts £l2 10s to £l4, prime heavy cows to £lB, medium £l4 to £l6 10s, lighter sorts £l2 to £l3 10s, unfinished down to £lO. RANGIORA A small yarding of stock was again forward at the weekly stock sale held in Rangiora yesterday. No cattle were forward for sale. Prices were realised as follows: Pigs.—Weaners, 17s to 235. Sheep.—Four-year-old ewes 255, store lambs 22s to 235, two-tooth wethers and two-tooth ewes 28s. MINING Clutha River Return.—For the period ended February 25 the Clutha river dredge worked 221 hours for 193 ounces of gold.—(P.A.)

Austral New Zealand Mining Report.— The dredge operated for 210 hours in the 14 days ended February 26, producing 288 ounces of bullion.—(P.A.)
