TWO PERSONS DROWNED

MAN FAILS TO SAVE DAUGHTER BODIES NOT YET FOUND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. An Auckland resident and his daughter were drowned on the east coast, just south of Cape Brett, this afternoon. They were: John Lane, aged about 42, a 4narried man with two children, of Titirangi. Barbara Lane, aged 10. Mr Lane’s family had gone in their car for a picnic in the Rawhiti district, and decided to go for a swim. Barbara Lane was caught in a strong undertow and swept out to sea. Her father went to her assistance, but he also was swept away. A search for the bodies was halted by darkness, but it will be resumed at daylight to-morrow. The accident to-day brings the number of drownings on the coast between Whangarei heads' and Cape Brett this summer to six.
