Defence Works in Canada
Defence works were being built hurriedly on the west coast of Canada last year, and large numbers of negroes were engaged in the W’ork. said Mrs L. Newstead. who returned recently from a visit to Canada, tn an interview at Ashburton yesterday. “People in Canada are r, uite sure they will be in the middle of the next war. In fact they talked so much about it that I almost came home after six months.’’ she said. The negroes working on the defences were known to* the Indians as the “black white men.’’
