N.S.W. SHORT OF COAL

SYDNEY, Jinuary 17. New South Wales miners returned to work to-day after 24 days’ holiday to find that the State had less than two days’ reserve of coal. To rush coal to waiting industries, 100 trains a day will move into Newcastle, Eight small colliers will move more than 20,000 tons of coal this week to Sydney, and inter-State colliers will wait under the Newcastle hoppers and cranes. They are unlikely to get away before to-morrow.
