VIRGIN PEAKS CLIMBED

ASCENT BY CANTERBURY MOUNTAINEERS Ascents of three virgin peaks in the uutler river area were made by four members of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club during the holidays. The peaks, which are on the North Butler range, are all more than 8000 feet high. Earlier, the four climbers had travelled from the head of Lake Tekapo to the head of the Godley glacier and had attempted unsuccessfully to climb virgin peaks in that area. After climbing the peaks in the Butler river area they went over the-Classen Saddle and the Tasman Saddle to the Malte Brun Hut, from where Wl e £. of . the P art y climbed Malte Brun <10,421 feet).
