—— MAYOR INSTALLED Mr F. G. Briggs, who was elected Mayor of Lyttelton at the by-election last week, was v Jnstalled in office at the meeting of the borough council last evening by the Town Clerk (Mr J. Thompson). Acknowledging the congratulations of Mr Thompson, the Mayor said he desired to thank him for the very great assistance h<e had given him in the past. He also thanked the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. E. H. Paulsen) and Mrs Paulsen for the able manner in which they had carried out their duties during the time Lyttelton was without a Mayor or Mayoress. At the end of the meeting the councillors and wives were the guests of the Mayor and Mayoress at their home. Lyttelton Fire Brigadl The following officers were elected at the seventy-sixth' annual meeting of the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade:— Superintendent, Mr A. Wyatt; deputysuperintendent, Mr W. Geayley; foreman, Mr S. E. Carson; secretary, Mr C. J. Beckett; committee, Messrs Wyatt, Geayley, Carson, Beckett, Firemen W. Adams and M. Kay. Messenger Keith Collins was promoted to fireman. Superintendent Wyatt was appointed representative of the brigade at the United Fire Brigades’ Association conference at Hawera next month.
