GENERATORS FOR RUSSIA
BIG ORDERS FOR BRITISH COMPANY Orders for diesel electrical generatinft' sets valued at £4,400.000 are on the booS of the Leeds engineering firm of J. and H. McLaren, Ltd. The bulk of the orders, to be delivered by the end of 1949, are for Russia under the British-Soviet trade agreement. The Russian orders total soma £3,640,000. The firm is exporting the diesels at the rate of 30 a week and of the original order for 500 of the 50 kilowatt teat, valued at £1,000,000, including spares, 200 have been delivered. A further 250. passed by the Russian inspectors, are awaiting dispatch instructions from Soviet Trade Delegation headquarters in London. As a result of this performance, the firm has received a further order for 1150 diesels, of the same type, valued at £2,500,000 with spares. In addition,; another contract has just been receltw for 50 75 kilowatt sets, costing £140.000, all to be delivered to Russia by the ent. of 1949. The speed with which the Russian ord” ers are being executed has brought tfet firm a congratulatory letter from the Ministry of Supply, which says that thair efforts have been “of great assistance to the department in carrying out the obligations undertaken by the GovemmMjL under the terms of the British-Soviet Trade agreement.”
