PEACE MEETING
Sir, —Trade unions all over the world wholeheartedly and without reservations supported governments in 1914 and 1939. When war broke out, they brushed internationalism and all humanitarian principles aside. Trade unionists who oppose conscription in peace time arc illogical and insincere. The latter applies still more to Communists. They have never opposed war, either in theory or practice. They are as totalitarian in this respect as in every other direction. And as for the churches, they have been blessing bombs and battleships and are still providing “divine justification ’ for wars. It is funny to see this United FYont posing as champions of peace and not a word of protest against the foolish waste of vast amounts of money and materials in preparation for the next monster war.—Yours, etc.. RATIONALIST. December 15, 1948.
