TIN WALD Prices for fat sheep at the Tinwald saleyards yesterday were down 7s a head for ewes and down 3s for wethers, compared with last week’s prices at the Ashburton yards. The entry of fat sheep was larger than usual, with the advance of shearing. Top price for wethers was 50s Id for a line of four sold by J. Young (Longbeach). J. Ellis (Hinds) sold four hoggets at 48s 7d. Fat lambs sold from 36s Id to 465, J. H. Horrell (Lagmhor) gaining top price. Light-weight wethers made to 39s 6d, medium quality from 40s to 43s 6d, and good quality from 44s to 50s Id. Light-weight ewes realised up to 21s 6d, medium quality from 22s to 24s 6d, and good quality from 25s to 28s 7d. Prices for catle were:—three fat heifers at £l5 12s 6d. 2 steers £l5 17s 6d, fat cow £l5 2s 6d. TEMUKA "The Press” Special Service TEMUKA, Dec. 14. The fat cattle entry at yesterday’s sale at Temuka numbered 117 head. A number of pens of quality steers and heifers were

included, with more than an average number of of all grades. The market opened very quietly, and in the first dozen pens a number of cattle were passed. Light to handy-weight prime steers and heifers were in demand, gross weight cows and steers being neglected. No doubt the large numbers offered at Pleasant Point and St. Andrews last week enabled the trade to obtain more than their requirements. The store entry changed hftnds under quiet competition. Values:—prime heavy steers, £2l 17s 6d to £23 17s 6d; prime steers, £lB 2s 6d to £2O 7s 6d, light to medium £l4 7s 6d to £l7 7s 6d; prinse heavy cows £l4 2s 6d to £l6 7s 6d, light to medium £8 2s 6d to £l2 7s 6d; prime heifers. £l4 2s 6d to £l7 7s 6d. light to medium £lO 17s 6d to £l3 7s 6d, Store Cattle.—Yearling steers and heifers, £6 2s 6d to £8 15s, 18-monthS £8 17s 6d to £9 15s; dairy cows and heifers, £l2 to £l7 15s; bulls, to £9. Fully 600 fat lambs were yarded, quality ranging from prime heavy to average freezing weights. Butchers bought lambs suitable, the balance being absorbed by freezing interests. Two races of fat sheep of very mixed quality were penned, with light to handy-weight wethers and ewet in most demand. Values eased for overweight ewes and rough wethers, to the extent of 3s per head. Values:—prime heavy lambs, 42s lOd to 45s 7d; prime lambs 35s Id to 39s Id, light to medium 33s Id to 34s 7d; prime heavy wethers 57s lOd to 60s lOd. light to medium 44s lOd to 52s lOd; prime heavy ewes, 28s Id to 32s Id; prime ewes, 26s lOd to 27s lOd; prime maiden ewes, to 45s Id.
