HUTT VALLEY WINS TROPHY WANGANUI BEATEN ON FIRST INNINGS (P.A.) WANGANUI, December 13. Hutt Valley won the Hawke Cup cricket match with Wanganui, the holders, which began last Friday and ended to-day. The win was on the first innings. The challengers made 336 in the first innings and Wanganui in reply made 298. Hutt Valley declared at 364 for eight wickets in the second innings and Wanganui had to make 403 runs to win. When stumps were drawn, Wanganui had made 133 for four wickets, thus losing the trophy by 38 runs on the first inSuperb batting by J. Reid, who scored 135, was a feature of Hutt Valley’s second innings. To-day Reid was at the wicket for 164 minutes, and his total included a six and 20 fours. BEATS W AIK AR I A team from Radley Bros., Christchurch, beat the Waikari team by three runs on the first innings in a friendly cricket match, played at Waikari recently. Radley Bros, made 84 in the first innings (Mortlock 28, Dowker 14. Nelson 11, O’Flahefty 10). and 86 for six wickets (declared) in the second (Dowker 67). Waikari made 81 (Pearce 27, Higinbottom 15, .Shadbolt 12) and 51 for three (Brown 34). Bowling for Waikari, Brown took four for 19. Pearce two for 6. and Stevenson two for 11 in the first innings, and Shadbolt took three for 26 and Stevenson two for 13 in the second. For Radley Bros., Dowker took three for 14.
