Dr. H. Belshaw, former Professor of Economics at Auckland University College, is to become Director of the Rural Welfare Division of the Food and Agriculture Organisation in Washington. He arrived in Auckland by Skymaster yesterday, after attending the conference at Lapstone. New South Wales, of the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East.— (P.A.) Mr W. H. Overton was re-elected chairman of the Paparua County Council at the annual meeting last evening. Appreciative reference to the work of Mr A. G. Gillies, first assistant master aV St. Andrew’s College, was paid by several speakers at the annual prize-giving of the college yesterday. Mr Gillies has been on the staff of the college for 21 years. Presentations were made to him on behalf of the Parents’ Association and of the Old Boys’ Association.
