BUTTER RATIONING Sir,—lt is wonderful to hear from Mr Nordmeyer that our weekly butter ration may be increased by 2oz. At present our consumption per capit is only 311 b a year ana raising it by 61b will go a little way towards enabling us to keep up our world-wide reputation for magnificent physique. In England they have managed quite well for years on about 101 b per annum each, so if it does cause a decrease in that by an ounce or two,. it won’t really matter,—Yours, etc.. NEW ZEALAND FIRST. December 13, 1948. [We should not allow correspondence to begin again on a subject frequently and thoroughly discussed in this column, but for the weekend statement by the Minister in charge of Rationing. Only entirely relevant and reasonable letters will be admitted. References to the 3 per cent, margin of exports to other countries than Britain will accordingly be excluded. —Ed., “The Press.”]
