WELSH MEMBERS ANNOYED
PROPOSAL MADE BY GOVERNMENT
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 25. “An insult to Wales” was how Welsh members of Parliament described Mr Herbert Morrison’s announcement in the House of Commons that while the Government could not accept the demand for a special Minister for Welsh affairs they proposed to set up a Council for Wales. The work of the council would be to inform the Government of trends of Welsh opinion and how Governmental activities were affecting the Welsh people's lives. Its 27 members would represent major Welsh interests but would not include members of/the House. Lady Megan Lloyd George (Liberal, Anglesey) said the Government was offering them "a scraggy bone without meat or marrow.” Others called the proposal “spineless, useless, ridiculous, and pettifogging,” and said that Mr Morrison should withdraw it.
