SAFFRON THISTLE IN POISONED GRAIN •From Our Own Reporter WAIMATE. October 27. A warning to ratepayers against using poison grain, which was found to contain considerable quantities of saffron thistle, was given by the chairman (Major N. A. Rattray) at a meeting of the Waimate County Council to-day. There had been a considerable demand for the grain, he said. The Department of Agriculture, in reply to an inquiry, said that phosphorus poison would not neutralise germination. Suppliers had been advised. but nothing but infected Australian wheat released by the Government was selling in stores in Waimate. because no other wheat was available.

The council decided to withdraw the poison grain and return it to the suppliers.
