LAMBS KILLED BY LIGHTNING
SEVERE STORM AT LAURISTON
Two lambs were killed by lightning on the farm of Mr C. A. Fyfe, at Lauriston, nine miles from Methven, during a severe thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon. Mr Fyfe, who was wdrking near the flock at the time, had the hair singed on his right arm by the flash. The lambs suffered extensive lacerations and burns. They were killed within three feet of each other.
A severe thunderstorm also occurred at Kimbell, near Fairlie, on Saturday afternoon, and the rain was so heavy that new-born lambs were drowned in the paddocks before the water could drain away. Heavy rain fell at Methven, and'a severe hailstorm, with unusually large stones, battered crops and fruit trees in the Highbank, Mount Somers, and Staveley districts.
