"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. October 18. The weather forecast for Canterbury

issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a wedge of high pressure is moving eastwards across the South Island. Forecast: moderate winds, north-easterlies on the coast; northwesterlies inland. Weather fair, with moderate temperatures. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate northerlies, freshening slowly. Weather overcast, with rain becoming general and heavier during the day. Temperatures moderate. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and sunny, with a gusty southwest wind. The maximum temperature was 63 degrees. The sky was clear at midnight but the temperature was 47.8 degrees and an easterly breeze. The barometer at 29.858 in (1011.1 millibars) was steady.
