SUNLIGHT LEAGUE
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING As the league had always been under vice-regal patrbnage it could now claim in its eighteenth year that it had reached its majority, said Dr. D. E. Currie (chairman) at the annual generaj meeting of the Sunlight League held in Begg’s concert hall last evening. The occasion was marked by giving the “Glenelg” Health Camp entire independence. A resolution was passed that in future the camp be a separate entity,-and that its administration be 4he responsibility of the “Glenelg” Health CfiinpV Gonimittee. For the first time in thfe history of the league some alterations were also made to the constitution. A short history of the league’s activities compiled by the founder. Miss Cora Wilding, was read by Dr. Currie, and gave members an idea of the work that had been accomplished since 1930. The Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews), who seconded the adoption of the annual report of the league, said that the value of sunlight was being recognised more and more ■by health authorities and people generally. Health Camp In her report of the work of the “Glenelg” Health Camp Committee, Miss M. Enright said that 607 children had passed through the camps. “Glenelg” had been free from any serious illness or accidents. The committee had received many letters of thanks from parents of children who had benefited from their stay at the camp. The work at “Glenelg” was widely recognised, and matrons, sub-matrons and other staff going to other health camps had been sent to “Glenelg” first to see how things were done there and to gain some experience of the work. No city in New Zealand had more successfully captured the sunlight than Christchurch with its open spaces and reserves, said Mr J. E. Strachan, headmaster of the Rangiora High School, who was the guest speaker. The Sunlight League and its associated bodies were to be congfatulated on the kind of work they were doing in helping .children to grow up physically and mentally healthy, helping them to get some hint of nature’s real laws and beauty, and teaching them to realise the dignity of work when work was service and service was partnership.
