THREE FIRES AT LYTTELTON
SEA SCOUTS LOSE BOAT EQUIPMENT
The Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade had three calls during the weekend. The first was at 7.35 p.m. on Saturday to a chimney fire in a house in Sumner .road occupied by Mr W. Edgar. The second call was at 4.30 a.m. yesterday to a fire which had broken out in a building below Norwich quay, owned by the Railways Department and used by the Lyttelton Sea Scouts as a store for boat gear. The damage amounted to more than £3OO. All boating gear belonging to the corps was destroyed, and there will be nd boating until the equipment is replaced. During the winter members of the corps had worked hard in preparing their boats for the new season.
The third call was at 11.5 a.m. yesterday to a seed store adjacent to the Sea Scouts store and owned and occupied by the Canterbury Seed Company. A number of sacks of malt were damaged, but there was only minor damage to the building. Police investigations are being made regarding the two fires which occurred yesterday.
