HALL ACE

A CONSISTENT PACER Paraded in splendid order by H. I. Herbert, who trains him at Waimate for Mr W. Cameron, Hall Ace, which raced consistently last season for two wins and 13 minor olacings in 19 starts, was seen at his best when he had a comfortable win in the Seaview Handicap at the New Briehton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. < Crown Plate, Makarewa and Direct Heir broke at the start. Emily Volo was the smartest to begin and at the end of two furlongs she was leading from Marcia, Beckleigh, Lucky Potts, Gay Piper, Volodale, Hall Ace, Worthy Jack, Our Nulgie, Shadow Chimes, Kimono Girl. Gantree, Rose Volo, Substitute, West Point, Demetrius. Double Deck. Golden Game, and Best Globe. 4 Emily Volo was followed into the straight for the sprint home by Beckleigh. Lucky Potts. Hall Ace, Shadow Chimes, and Gay Piper. Hall Ace was in command with a furlong to go and he carried on to win by half a length from Gay Piper, which was well clear of Lucky Potts. A six-year-old gelding. Hall Ace is by Dillon Hall from Rita Drusus, which is by the imported Drusus from a Wallace L mare. Gay Piper, which was backed down to -3-3 in the betting, has developed into a good type. A five-year-old horse by U Scott from Festival, he should go close to winning at the Methven Trotting Club’s I meeting this week. Jottings Lillian Mac should be hard to beat in the Drayton Trot Handicap at the Methven Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday. A filly by Light Brigade from Two Crosses has been registered as Croix Royal. By Rey de Oro, Two Crosses is out of Regina Logan, which left a large family of winners Doreano began badly -in the Shirley Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. Stirling Castle should add interest to the King George Handicap at the FOrbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on October 9. Tudor Minstrel broke at the start of the Bowhill Handicap at New Brighton on Saturday. He is now trained at Addington by his owner, L. G. Tisch. Solid Display Conceit, the favourite for the Shirley Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, justified his confident support when he led all the way. Conceit and Passive both began smartly and they were soon 12 lengths clear of Loyal Wrack, Sure Jinks and Merry Man, with another gap of 10 lengths to Black

Forest, Silver Volo. Mack Sure, and Mosquito. ' Conceit opened up a gap of about six lengths to Passive in the early stages and he carried the field along at a fast clip. Passive, Loyal Wrack, and Mosquito moved up to be ‘handy to Conceit with half a mile to go, but Mosquito broke and dropped back shortly afterwards. Conceit was clear with two furlongs to run, but Passive set out after him and the crowd was excited as they settled down to a hard fight over the last furlong. Conceit stuck to his gait in fine style under pressure and he lasted long enough to win by three-quarters of a length from Passive with Loyal Wrack 10 lengths away in third place. A five-year-old son of a winner in Desmond’s JPride and Mersa Matruh, which left a winner in Mamanuas, Conceit appears to have a bright future. Led All the Way Sea Craft, which finished fourth to Goldina, Sirocco, and Gold Strike in the Oxford Handicap at New Brighton on September 11, was allowed to return a dividend approaching double-figures when he led all the way in the Pacific Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. At the end of the first half-mile, Sea Craft was followed by On Approval, Gold Strike, Dandy Grattan, Kingcobra, Despatch, Worthy Dick, Herald, Melvian, King’s Messenger, Confirmed, Mourne Spring, and Red Herring. Sea Craft always appeared to be going easily and he carried on to win decisively from On Approval. Then came Worthy Dick, Red Herring, and Despatch practically in line. One of C. M. Laing's team at Tinwald, Sea Craft, which is by Quite Sure from a winner in Marie Celeste, should graduate to good company this season. Deaths of Horses The deaths of the following horses were reported at the meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association on Thursday night:—Black Rod, Danny Malone, Jolly Queen, Tangerine, and Trafalgar. Methven T.C. Owners and trainers are reminded that withdrawals for all events at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on October 2, close with Mr J. F. Stone, at Methven, on Tuesday, September 28. at 5 p.m. Advt.
