CHILD SAVED FROM DROWNING
(P.A.) THAMES, September 25. Through the prompt action of Mr and Mrs F. P. Wilton, Brown street, Thames, Fred Sweeney, aged 2, was saved from drowning yesterday. The child had been playing with others on the foreshore near Victoria Park when he accidentally slipped and fell into the sea in about Bft of water. Cries from the other children attracted the attention of Mr Wilton, who is caretaker of the park. He entered the water and rescued the child, who was then floating face downwards some distance from the shore. Mrs Wilton also rushed to the scene, and when the child was brought ashore applied artificial respiration, which proved successful. MAN FOUND UNCONSCIOUS Patrick Jamieson, of Dunollie, who was staying at the Excelsior Hotel, Christchurch, Was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 12-50 a.m. yesterday. He had been found lying unconscious >at the corner of Tuam and High streets. He was suffering from head injuries and it is thought that he was involved in an accident. His condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory. MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED George William Parker, of 502 Colombo street, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 3.20 p.m. on Saturday suffering from concussion. He was injured when his motor-cycle and a motor-car driven by Jean Winifred Hewson, 81 Creyke road, collided.
