PROPOSED ECONOMIC COMMITTEE

(Rec. 7 p-m.) OTTAWA, Sept. 25. A proposal to establish a permanent committee to study commercial and economic matters of mutual concern to Canada and the United Kingdom was agreed to at the three days’ discussions between the British Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir Stafford Cripps) and the Canadian Government. The'proposal will be submitted to the British and Canadian Governments for approval. The committee, which would comprise representatives of both countries, would recommend adjustments of imports and exports.

Combating Tsetse Fly.—-The Kenya Government research laboratories at Kabete have reported a discovery of world-wide importance in the combating of the tsetse fly, the carrier of sleeping sickness and the tsetse fly disease, which kills thousands of animals a year in the tropics. A veterinary officer declared that such a discovery would mean that the biggest obstacle had been overcome in the plan to turn 2000 square miles of Kenya into a vast ranching centre. —Mombasa, Sept. 25.
