INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Sir,—The Hon. F. Jones’s reply to the letter from Canterbury, advocating Harewood as a second international airport reveals a remarkable lack of interest. It is time he sat down ana did a little quiet thinking. New Zealand obviously needs another oversea air terminal, as witness the attitude ot the Australian and New Zealand air operators: and if one is to be developed Harewood is the obvious choice. It is at the centre of the South Island and only four miles from Christchurch- It is all-weather, being built on shingle, and has an unobstructed approach from all angles and unlimited opportunities for expansion. Mr Jones is merely quibbling when he mentions the cost and difficulty of building larger runways. The money will'have to be spent. The South wants this airport and wants it September 23, 1948.
