BIG AUSTRALIAN SCORE

406 FOR 3 AGAINST SOUTH OF ENGLAND LONDON, September 1. A dashing 105 not-out by Neil Harvey at the end of the day after flawless centuries from Bradman and Hassett, put the Australians in an unchallengeable position in their match against South of England, at Hastings. Harvey, who is the seventh Australian to exceed 1000 runs on the tour, made his fourth century in brilliant style. He rounded off the innings with a flurry of fours to reach 100 in 90 minutes, including 13 boundaries. Hassett played second fiddle to both Bradman ana Harvey, but his seventh century of the tour was inevitable as fate. It was slow, but chanceless. Hassett’s 136 not out was made in 290 minutes with 16 fours. Bradman was brilliant. He was virtually the opening batsman, as Barnes was dismissed with the first ball of the match, but the captain began at a run-a-minute pace. He reached his century in 133 minutes and in all batted 187 minutes for 143. He hit a sixer and 17 fours. It was his tenth century of the tour. The bowling, on a good wicket, was accurate but it lacked hostility.
