WOMEN TROTTING DRIVERS
. Sir,—May I comment on an interesting m your issue of August 19? A splendid horsewoman, Miss Button was one of the few women who have won races on New Zealand trotting tracks. ’ What is the position to-day for women? Although the Rules of Trotting provide for licences for women, it is seemingly the policy of the trotting association to refuse all women applicants, even denying a woman-owner the right to obtain an amateur licence. On the other hand, the racing authorities grant women licences; witness the leading position on the trainers’ ladder held by Mrs J. Campbell, and the due credit given to Brookby Song’s co-trainer, Mrs Hall. It is common knowledge that numerous women train trotters and they, because of the policy of the Trotting Association, are obliged to resort to all kinds of subterfuges. In a democracy even a would-be woman trainer has her rights!—Yours, etc., . ANOMALY. August 20, 1948. [The Trotting Association was approached on this matter, but no reply has yet been received.]
