JAPANESE REMNANTS IN MANCHURIA

SURRENDER OFFEREB TO CHINESE SHANGHAI. August 31. Chinese authorities in Nanking and Mukden are considering the disposal of a Japanese force 10,000 strong which has offered to surrender to the Nationalist forces after hiding for the last three years in the Changpai Mountains, in Eastern Manchuria. According to the “Central Daily News,” most of the men are said to be former members of Japan’s Kwantung army, although there is also a sprinkling of former Manchukuo troops. It is said that they wish to surrender because of a Communist threat to their mountain hide-out. The entire force is said to be well equipped and to have large supplies of food.
