TOTALITARIAN TENDENCY

FEARS FOR WESTERN NATIONS STATEMENT TO WORLD CHURCHES’ COUNCIL (Rec. 7 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, Aug. 31. All the Western nations were headed towards totalitarianism, said Dr. Emil Brunner, of Zurich University, at a public meeting of the World Council of Churches in Amsterdam. He said that Communism was more dangerous than capitalism because it did not permit criticism or correction. Totalitarian States were “the real social evil of our time.”

Nationalisation of industry was the sure road tn the totalitarian State, in spite of the democratic ideals and intentions of those who propagated it, said Dr. Brunner. Once an economy was nationalised the totalitarian State was there, whether one wanted it or not.
