STATEMENT BY AUCKLAND TOWN CLERK From Our Own Reoorter ! WELLINGTON. Sept. 1. ‘ The Town Clerk cf Auckland. Mr T. . W. M. Ashby, said to-night that the . keas were wanted by the Auckland zoo i for export to the United States of America. Recent inquiries had been received from the San Diego Zoo, which would distribute the birds to other zoos in the United States. “There is a constant demand for in America.” said Mr Ashby. “With the problem of dollars, it is hetofvl f v.e can exchange New Zealand biro’s fir American birds, which are wanted by our own zcof. “Keas travel well and seem to thrive j in captivity,” he said.
