OLD VIC COMPANY’S PERFORMANCES
WRITTEN APPLICATIONS ONLY
Only written applications will be accepted for seats for performances by the Old Vic Theatre Company, which will open its season in Christchurch on September 20, with “The School For Scandal.’’ The decision was made because the company met with such public enthusiasm during its Australian tour that it was found necessary to' allocate seats by mail to give all sections of the community equal opportunity, to avoid inflicting hardships on the physically disabled and aged, and to avoid traffic congestion. The public stood in queues for as long as 72 hours, sometimes during bad weather, before the decision was made. Tlie company will present two plays in Christchurch. “The School for Scandal” will be played on September 20, 22, 23, 25, ana 27. “King Richard III” will be played on September 21, 24, and 28. There will be four matinees, on September 22, 23, 25, and 28. The applications are to be made from to-day, and any postmarked with a previous date will not be accepted.
