AUSTRALIA BEATS WELLINGTON HOME SIDE LEADS FOR MOST OF GAME (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Sept. 1. The Australian Association football team beat Wellington Province by 7 goals to 1 on the Basin Reserve to-day, but Wellington was in the lead till 15 minutes after half-time. Wellington put up a splendid performance in the first half, playing the Australians at their own game. Henry Bell’s goal brought a wave of elation to the crowd. The Australians were still struggling to find their feet early in the second half, and it needed Hughes’s opening goal to settle them down. From then on their shooting improved and their positional play became perfect. Wellington had not been very secure, in spite of its ascendancy. and now went to pieces. Nunn (3), Hodge (2), Cunningham, and Hughes scored Australia’s goals. SCHOOLBOYS’ TOURNAMENT AT WESTPORT In the fourth round ot the South Island schoolboys' tournament being played at Westport, Buller B. which had won two and drawn one of its first three games was eliminated by Otago by 2 goals to 0. Canterbury beat West Coast by 6 goals ! to 0, and Buller A beat South Canterbury by 4 goals to 0. Canterbury and Buller A, each with 6 championship points finished level and will play off for the championship today at Waimangaroa. DRAW FOR SATURDAY Senior.—West v. Nom. (1.15 p.m.), E.P.; Tech.
