SOUTHLAND BEATS HAWKE’S BAY
WINNING TEAM’S NEW BACKS (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 1. The Hawke’s Bay Rugby team was beaten by Southland to-day, 14 to 8, in a bright game played in perfect conditions. Southland, which fielded practically a new back line, showed improved form and never seemed in danger. The outstanding players for Southland were Harper and Bennett in the backs and Robinson and Cameron in the forwards. T. Ingram and Small were prominent in the Hawke’s Bay backs. McCormick hooked well and Fraser played a fine game In the forwards. The first score was a penalty goal by Chapman for Hawke's Bay, but at halftime Southland led 11 to 3—a penalty goal by Webster, a try by Harper, and a try by Creedy and converted by Webster. In the second half Webster kicked a penalty goal for Southland, and T. Ingram scored a try. which was converted by Chapman, for Hawke’s Bay. RANGIORA CLUB Rangiora v.
